MBBS Programme Structure

    The course of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery provided spans over 5 years (10 semesters) and is delivered in six segments which are delivered in a parallel manner designed to provide a graded exposure from basic to clinical sciences;

    1. Foundation of Medicine (15 modules)
    2. Early Clinical Exposure (1 module) 
    3. Applied Sciences Modules (18 modules)
    4. Clinical Rotations 
    5. Community Medicine (4 modules) 
    6. Medical Humanities (2 modules) 

    The total credit value of the MBBS program is 600 credits (120 credits per year × 5 years = 600 credits). A unit of academic credit consists of 10 hours of theory lessons, 15 hours of laboratory or practical lessons or 20 hours of clinical practicum including notional hours of student effort. For clinical rotations, the credit value is based on notional hours of students posted in the clinical department. 

    Core competencies of the programme / graduate attributes

    The core competencies of the MBBS graduates are: 

    1. Competent in basic and applied knowledge of medicine 
    2. Appropriate clinical skills for medical practice in healthcare settings and in the community 
    3. Adopt basic human values of compassion and kindness in medical practice in addition to Bhutanese values
    4. Good level of interpersonal and communication skills to become an efficient team member 
    5. Maintain high level of professionalism in conduct as a doctor in practice and in the society
    6. Cultivate the culture of life- long learner.
